Insiders refer to the Town of Palm Beach as "The Island".
The socially chic population of the 16-mile long barrier island rises from 10,000 in "off-season" to 30,000 "in-season."
"Wintering in Palm Beach" began in the 1880’s when Standard Oil magnate Henry Morrison Flagler built a railroad across Florida and grand hotels on the tropical barrier island. His friends and fellow captains of industry were invited to rejuvenate in the sunshine by day and attend lavish formal parties by night. By the early 1900’s Palm Beach was the vacation destination of choice for the wealthiest Americans living in the Northeast.
Palm Beach Homes have a mythical aura. Much of Palm Beaches’ charm derives from its architecture–a collage of Italian, Spanish and Moorish styles made famous by Addison Mizner, Maurice Fatio, John Volk and others.
The tranquil lanes and polished avenues leading to the ocean beaches and Lake Worth are lined with towering Ficus hedges and Coconut Palms. The main streets feature rows of the more stately Royal Palms. One can only glimpse the magnificent estates through the lush flowering landscapes and ornate gated driveways that meet the street. There are too many historical significant buildings to name. The Breakers Resort is iconic, as is Henry Flagler’s home Whitehall.
Great homes both sprawling and petite, come on the market and often at reasonable prices.
The oceanfront mansions overlook aquamarine waves. The Intracoastal fronted estates feature deepwater docks a ten-minute boat ride to where the Sailfish, Wahoo and Marlin bite.
There are even opportunities to purchase modest villas and luxury oceanfront condominiums–of which Seaside Properties Group has superior experience and knowledge.
The Robb Report names the Town of Palm Beach as one of America’s best places to live, a fact most already know. Who hasn’t heard of world-famous Worth Avenue with its array of boutiques such as Armani, Cartier, Louis Vitton, Tiffany & Co., Hermes, Gucci and Chanel? Those who have walked its sidewalks overhung with trellises of purple Bougainvilla discover even greater treasures such as quaint art galleries and local bistros. Royal Poinciana Way boasts another charming walk of galleries, historic restaurants and locally loved boutiques.
But the Palm Beach of old is giving way to new less formal more diverse and youthful society. One can still belong to the Society of the Four Arts and frequent the Palm Beach Symphony. One can hold memberships in the elite Everglades Club, Sailfish Club, Bath and Tennis Club or Palm Beach Country Club. But the fun begins when crossing the bridges to the colorful neon rennaisance of nightclubs on Clematis Street. Nearby City Place in West Palm Beach with its Raymond Kravis Center for The Performing Arts offers lively nights of dining, art and culture. International Polo Matches and Equestrian Events are a short drive westward to Palm Beach Polo Club at Wellington.
For more than a century Palm Beach has attracted the tycoons of industry and banking, the international jet set, and those of means who love perfect beaches, sunshine and watery playgrounds.
As a real estate purchase, Palm Beach will always be the "Gold Standard" of Florida’s Gold Coast.
